Dental Implant

Single tooth implant in row of teethDental implants have revolutionized the way we treat missing teeth. Thanks to new technology and techniques, Parkway Dentistry at Langtree is proud to offer in a wide-variety of implant-supported restorations, from single dental crowns to fixed partial and complete bridges (including All-on-4). Whether you are missing one tooth, multiple teeth, or all of your teeth, implant treatment may be the ideal solution!

What Are Dental Implants?

Much like the root of a tooth, a dental implant is embedded into the jawbone. After a brief healing period, this titanium post is then attached to a ceramic restoration, usually made of porcelain or zirconia. A dental crown is supported by a single implant, while a dental bridge or full-arch restoration requires a series of implants.

Regardless, the implant and restoration are usually linked together by an additional support structure known as an abutment. Like implant screws, most abutments are also made from titanium due to the metal’s durability and longevity.

Implant-supported restorations are fabricated using ceramic materials for esthetic reasons. Porcelain and zirconia can be colored, textured, shaped, and polished to match the appearance of enamel. In other words, your new restoration should be virtually-indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

The Dental Implant Process

As with other restorations, the dental implant process begins with a consultation appointment. During your consultation, Dr. Shannon Snipe will perform a comprehensive examination to find out whether or not implants are appropriate for your situation. Once we determine you are a suitable candidate, we can schedule your procedure.

The implant procedure is generally split up into two or three appointments. During you first appointment, we place your implants underneath the gum tissue and into the bone. Once the implant is in place, we will suture your incision.

The number of implants you receive is dictated by the number of missing teeth. We usually place an implant for each missing tooth of a partial bridge. A complete bridge or implant-retained denture can require anywhere from two screws to upwards of eight.

During the next six months or so, a process we call osseointegration will cause each implant to fuse to the living bone. This process is vital to the success of your implants, meaning we must wait before moving forward with the rest of your treatment. Once osseointegration is complete, we can place your abutment during a second surgery.

In some cases, it may be possible to place an implant and abutment at the same time. Depending on your situation, we may also be able to immediately load a temporary restoration. We usually place your custom-made crown or bridge during a follow-up appointment, after the fabrication process is complete.

What Is the All-on-4 Treatment Concept?

All-on-4 is a name-brand treatment concept invented by Nobel Biocare, a manufacturer at the forefront of the implant industry. As you can probably guess, All-on-4 is a fixed complete bridge that only requires four implant screws. This is far fewer implants than other, more conventional appliances.

During your procedure, Dr. Shannon Snipe will place the four implants at specific angles to maximize the support your jaw, which eliminates the need for bone grafting beforehand. All-on-4 is also one of the few treatment concepts that allows us to place your restoration during the same appointment as your surgery. Once in place, your new teeth should look and function like a real smile!

Because the screws become a part of you, full-arch solutions like All-on-4 are considered the next best thing to your natural teeth. Among other advantages, All-on-4 offers patients supreme esthetics, durability, longevity, comfort, and long-term oral health benefits! In general, implant-supported restorations are far superior to more conventional options like removable dentures.
