Signs You Need Molar Uprighting

Posted on 11/20/2019 by Aghera
Signs You Need Molar UprightingIf you have lost one of your molars as a result of injury, decay or extraction, it is important that you replace that tooth by either a partial bridge or a dental implant.

Failure to do so can lead to many oral health complications such as additional tooth loss, bone loss and even impacted or tipping molars.

Fixing Impacted or Tipping Molars

When there are gaps between your molars, the teeth begin to shift and, in some cases, even tip. Additionally, your molars may grow in impacted or tipped. If you have a tipped molar, it can be fixed using screws and anchors and extensive orthodontics, but it is best if you can avoid the need for uprighting a molar by having a missing tooth replaced as soon as it is removed.

You may notice if you have a missing molar that the surrounding teeth may begin to move over time. They slowly begin to shift and may even tip, meaning the root disconnects from your jawbone and slowly begins turning sideways in your mouth. If you suspect that you have a tooth that is tipping, please call our office right away and schedule an exam. Through a physical exam that includes x-rays, we can determine the best way to correct your tipping molar before it becomes irreparable.

If a tipped molar is left untreated, it can cause numerous problems in your oral health, including inflammation, jawbone loss and pockets in your gum line where bacteria can get in and wreak havoc on the tissue and the roots of your teeth. Please call us with any concerns you may have about your teeth, our knowledgeable staff is here to help you restore your smile and provide you with optimal oral health care. We look forward to hearing from you!
